" . . . Joseph Smith, Jun., the translator of this work, has shown unto us the plates of which hath been spoken, which have the appearance of gold; and as many of the leaves as the said Smith has translated we did handle with our hands; and we also saw the engravings thereon, all of which has the appearance of ancient work, and of curious workmanship. ... " (part of the testimony of the eight witnesses of the Book of Mormon)
Testimony of Eight Witnesses
Additional scripture
“I was not looking for a church to join when I met the two young men who introduced me to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1971. I also had no desire for a new book of scripture. I just prayed for guidance from God. I now know that meeting two missionaries was my answer from God. I came to know for myself that the Book of Mormon truly came from God.” (Jonathan D. Whitcomb, LDS author)
Resurrection of Jesus Christ
“Resting in the peace of knowing that the Savior was indeed resurrected—that does not come from simplistic blind faith, notwithstanding some persons label it so. It comes with stepping forward, seeking to draw nearer to Christ with fervent prayer to our Father in Heaven. “That kind of step forward invites the influence of the Holy Spirit, as we strive to act and think in a way that would help us be comfortable if we were to discover that Christ was walking at our side. In this mortal life, we’re not likely to literally find the Savior walking beside us, yet in being close to the Holy Spirit in this life—that prepares us to receive the full presence of Christ in the next life.” (Jonathan David Whitcomb, LDS author)
